At last, we reached our cabin; I went inside to grab the bathroom supplies I kept beneath my bed. I was already dreading having to walk back down the hill to the showers, but the sooner I got it over with, the better. I pulled out everything I needed from my suitcase and paused. There was a strange sound, a faint buzzing in the air, the fluttering of insect wings. What the hell was that?

I checked behind me. Allie and Blakely stood there, watching me. Allie clasped her hands to her mouth, laughing, while Blakely looked sick. What had they done? I flipped on the lights.

A cloud of gnats hovered above my pillow and a trail of ants crawled from the pillow to under the blanket and down my bed. The spaghetti and chocolate milk churned in my stomach.

“What did you do?” I asked, my voice cracking. I reached to pull the blanket back, hesitating. What horrible thing would I find under there? What if there’s a hair-doll filled with bloody teeth? What if this wasn’t Allie’s doing at all but, instead, I’d awoken something terrible in the woods when I’d disturbed the hair-doll and now a tooth demon was here to punish me?
